Cultural Wellbeing Programme (CWP)
The Cultural Well-Being Programme (CWP) has been delivering culturally responsive mental health services across Manchester and Trafford since 2022. The programme is funded by the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB) through the Reducing Racial Inequalities in Mental Health Fund (formerly the Culturally Appropriate Services Fund (CAFS)).
Delivered in partnership by African Caribbean Mental Health Services (ACMHS), Empower Consultants CIC and Fikawelie Mental Health Unit CIC, the programme supports South Asian, Black African, Caribbean and dual heritage communities experiencing severe mental illness or mental health crisis.
The partnership delivers a 6-to-8-week holistic programme, providing personalised one-to-one support, culturally appropriate therapy, advocacy, mentoring, wellbeing workshops and community-based activities that recognise the importance of culture, faith, language and lived experience in recovery.
Empower Consultants CIC leads the delivery of the programme’s CPD-accredited Cultural Competence Training for all mental health professionals.
Our ongoing commitment is to ensure people from diverse communities have equitable access to high-quality mental health support that empowers them to recover, thrive and live well.
